1999 - 2000

Two boats were built: NZL-57 an NZL-60.
New Zealand NZL-60 was selected to race the 2000 America's Cup. It sailed against the Italian challenger Luna Rossa. It was the first time that an America's Cup Match was contested without an American boat.

Courses: five races sailed.

Course: 18.55 nautical miles off Auckland, six legs windward leeward course with downwind finish.

Results:

New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by five wins to nil

- 20 February 1st race, 18.55 miles: New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by 1 minute 17 seconds.
- 22 February 2nd race, 18.55 miles: New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by 2 minutes 43 seconds.
- 26 February 3rd race, 18.55 miles: New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by 1 minute 39 seconds.
- 1st March 4th race, 18.55 miles: New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by 1 minute 49 seconds.
- 2nd March 5th race, 18.55 miles: New Zealand beat Luna Rossa by 48 seconds.

In its 2000 America's Cup quest, Luna Rossa was beaten by New Zealand. Although the gap between the two boats was never too Team New Zealand never appeared to be threatened.
