Kookaburra III is launched in August. From October 18 to 28, the defence candidate A series races are held. Kookaburra II and Kookaburra III compete for the Taskforce'87 syndicate against Australia III, Australia IV, Steak'n'Kidney and South Australia. Series B is contested from November 9 to 19 and series C from December 2 to 14.
1987
The semi-finals are held from December 27 to January 9. Kookaburra II, Australia IV, Steak'n'Kidney. and Steak'n'Kidney are eliminated.
Kookaburra III and Australia IV race in the final of the defender selection series from between January 14 and 20, 1987.
Kookaburra III wins five times, defeating Australia IV, and is selected as the official defender of the 1987 America's Cup.
