BEAR-AWAY ESCAPE
In this scenario, Yellow and Blue have engaged in a dial-up. The escape route for Blue is to bear away and attempt a gybe. But this is difficult and dangerous. If it gybes, Blue becomes the give way boat on port tack (Rule 10). Yellow is under no obligation to give Blue room as Blue gives up its rights under Rule 15.
If the escape doesn’t work, Blue will usually luff up again into another dial-up in an attempt to re-position the boats more favourably.
