On Tuesday afternoon, Alinghi successfully defended the America’s Cup for the Société Nautique de Genève with a thrilling one second win in Race Seven over Emirates Team New Zealand. Alinghi wins the 32nd America’s Cup Match by a 5-2 score.
Ernesto Bertarelli, President of Alinghi, and Defender of the America’s Cup, on the last four years: “This is definitely bigger and better than last time. It has been much, much harder than I ever thought it would be. I think I was a bit naive in 2003 when I won. I have learnt...
Alinghi won the 32nd America’s Cup on Tuesday afternoon on the waters off Valencia. The Swiss Defender won its fourth consecutive race in dramatic fashion, by just one second, to win the Match 5-2.
What a match!, the teams were sailing their boats as if they were 10m long, instead of these huge boats in 15 knots of breeze. In a race of many twists, I’ll go with the top mark dial down as being the critical moment in the race. (despite the heart stopper at the finish line.) It was an example of the power of the right finally deciding a perfectly even match. On the second beat, New Zealand allowed Alinghi to get to the right again.

These final days of the America’s Cup, which have been dubbed ¨if days¨, are essentially a test of emotional endurance for spectators, and a lesson in torment for organizers. The winner of the Cup is the first to 4, and no one knows who will win, meaning no one knows when the...
“This is a contest of metres,” was Alinghi design coordinator Grant Simmer’s theory on Sunday afternoon, after racing had been postponed for the day: “Metres to get you in a position where you can get a strong lee bow, or metres where you can get just across the front of the other boat. It’s so close now that every couple of metres you can gain up the race course is going to be significant.”
A white cross cap, Alinghi sunglasses, or perhaps just a thick accent: even if they are less visible than their kiwi counterparts, Swiss supporters are swarming all over Port America’s Cup. How did the land-locked Swiss developed such enthusiasm for the sea?
Curtis Blewett is the fearless mid bowman on Alinghi, a Canadian with an appetite for all sports – hunting, fishing, biking, mountaineering – and sailing. He grew up next to a lake inland of Vancouver, but packed his bag and headed south to seek his career in sailing.
High pressure to northeast east of Valencia and unstable conditions inland maintain good sea breeze prospects, albeit slightly lighter than originally forecast.

The first thing you notice about her is the grace of her silhouette. Low to the water, with the masts raked back, the boat simply looks fast, graceful, and elegant. Step aboard on a windy day, sheet in the sails, and she more than delivers on that promise of speed. Swiftly pushing through the...
Those numbers represent the number of wins each team needs to claim the 32nd America’s Cup, and shows the size of the task ahead of the Kiwi team.
With the score in the America’s Cup Match favouring Alinghi at 4-2, Emirates Team New Zealand must win the next three races if it...
