Spain is committed to sport. Each year our country hosts numerous first-class sporting events. The America’s Cup is one of them, but the list is long and includes the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, World Championships in a range of disciplines (football, basketball, skiing, athletics, cycling…), competitions such as golf’s Ryder Cup, the final stages of European championships, annual motorcycle Grand Prix and Formula 1 events…

Spain also has close to 8,000 kilometres of coastline, making it a paradise for water sports lovers. Much of our coastline has calm waters, pleasant temperatures and sunshine all year round. Places such as the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean coast or the shores of the Cantabrian are the ideal setting for disciplines such as sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, kitesurfing, kayaking, water skiing, angling… There are a host of schools and clubs where you can try these sports out, offering courses with supervision from specialist instructors. You can enjoy the sea here at any time of year. A good way to make the most of your stay is to head for any of Spain’s 17 Marine Resorts. They can prepare a made-to-measure holiday for you where water sports are the main attraction.

The same is true of golf. Spain is a privileged destination for this sport. There are currently 313 golf courses to be found here. They go from courses in major cities, to those in mountainous areas and others right on the coast, with competitive prices that adapt to all your requirements. The golf season is also very long, thanks to good year-round weather, the lack of wind and good visibility. There is no excuse for not coming to play golf in Spain – here you will find excellent communications and a broad range of services on offer, as well as quality hotel infrastructure. Another point to mention is that many golf courses can be found just a few kilometres from major international airports.

The possibilities for sports available in Spain are almost limitless. We have 36 ski resorts, and Spain is Europe's second most mountainous country. It is the ideal destination for winter sports, with sunshine even in the coldest winter months. It is not unusual to ski with mild temperatures and bright sunshine. All this with quality snow, first-rate facilities, courses available for all ages and a broad range of complimentary activities.

The most daring amongst you are in luck, because Spain is a land of adventure. There are numerous mountain areas where you can go climbing and mountaineering, and there are many other sports available where excitement is number one: canyoning, especially in Aragon; rafting and kayaking on the white waters of the Pyrenean rivers; caving; air activities (paragliding, hang gliding, microlighting…). Spain has a large number of centres that specialise in adventure tourism, where you will receive advice on the various different activities.

These are just a few of the many sporting options that await you in Spain, a country where you will find the perfect mix of sport, countryside and fun.
